Massage Therapy

When your body suffers from a physical or mental dysfunction, the soft tissues of the body can be subjected to simulated tension or pressure. This simulated tension targets muscles, connective tissues and lymphatic vessels and achieves various benefits from the treatment process. Massage therapy helps in the treatment of the scar tissue from injury. Massage therapy also helps in relieving any psychological stress manages pain and eliminates any headaches and improves circulation in the body.

A massage therapy technique performed by a massage therapist allows the person to claim therapeutic benefits for the body. The therapeutic benefits include the treatment of muscle tension. A client can also free any restrictions between the myofascian layers. Massage therapy is practiced through various techniques. One of the most popular techniques is Chair Massage also known as Corporate Massage. A client who requests for a chair massage to be done would need to sit upright on a massage chair. The massage therapist uses his hands to work on the body of the client as a part of the massaging process.

Finger and hand positioning of the massage therapist is extremely critical for a successful massage therapy technique. Techniques are differentiated on the basis of the use of hands in providing the massage to the client.

Let's look at the different techniques used in providing the massage:

  • One hand multiple fingers massage - This technique is used to massage nostrils, eyebrows and in cases where the client complains of mild pain in parts of his body. This massage technique does not warrant application of a lot of force on parts of the client's body.

  • Two hand multiple fingers massage - This is the most commonly used technique for strengthening and the lengthening of muscles in a client's body. The massage therapist uses his thumb and the index finger of both the hands to exert force on the body. The remaining three fingers are used to provide a soothing effect on the client's body.

  • Hand-edge massage - This massaging technique is used generally by massage therapists to relieve stress from parts of the back which includes lower and upper back. The massage therapist applies repetitive hits with the edge of both the hands on the back part of the client's body.

The above mentioned three techniques are used in different therapies. Massage therapists who use these techniques to massage a client's body must be licensed to practice massage therapy. Please note that one has to be very careful in giving massage therapy to a client as a wrong technique used may cause a lot of harm to the client.
