Massage therapy is not a difficult art to learn. All that you need to gain expertise in is your finger positioning and the types of massages applicable to different cases, and you are good to start giving massages to others. Though, there are plenty of online courses available for this, massage therapy is best learnt by attending a massage therapy training institute or a school of massage therapy.

The practice of massage therapy has its own legal implications and statutes with close to 37 states having statutes. In addition to this, quite a few state governments too have their rules which mandate massage practice therapies to be licensed with the local licensing authorities.

How does one benefit by attending the Massage Therapy Schools?

Massage therapy schools prepares the students for the NCETMB and the NCETM examinations. Students are required to appear for these examinations only in certain states as it is mandatory for them to take these examinations. Students may apply for licenses only if they pass these examinations or any other state mandated examinations.
The NCE (National Certification Examination) allows students to apply for licensing in any state of the United States of America irrespective of whether the state requires the students to appear for the tests. Just in case the state does not use the NCE, the students can either take the state sponsored examination or apply for reciprocity.

Which massage therapist schools do I choose?

The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) has introduced professional accreditations for students who wish to do a massage program. You would need to do some research to choose the school which you wish to attend. The school of massage would need to offer the massage course as specialization for the student. The second thought for consideration would be on the lines of massage courses offered by the school. You would need to understand if the schools teach the subjects artificially or not. Quite often, this aspect of schools is left uninvestigated by students. As a guide, massage courses should have in-depth knowledge of parental massage, healing touch techniques, Shiatsu, Pain relief to name a few. The last point students should consider is the fact that massage courses are not something that ends with certification or accreditation. One could always learn about different massage therapies by attending seminars, workshops etc.

Massage school is the ideal way for students to get trained in different massage courses. Remember, once they get the basic knowledge and pass the certification examinations, they could apply for licensing to practice massages. Students career can take off being a massage therapist which would enable the student to give massages to others.
