Acupressure Reflexology
Reflexology is a massage technique where the foot is defined of zones each corresponding to different organs of the body. Acupressure Reflexology derives its concepts from Acupressure and Reflexology. Acupressure involves the massage therapist who places his hand, elbow or various devices at different acupuncture points in the body.
The only difference between acupressure and reflexology is in the fact that reflexology massage is performed on the feet and the hand whereas acupressure is performed on different acupressure points throughout the body. It is essential for us to know acupressure points as they are the nodes of the acupressure treatment.
What is acupressure and what are acupressure points?
Acupressure points, several hundred of them are placed on the surface of the body which is distributed along the meridians. Acupressure and acupuncture techniques have for long been very subjective to a lot of discussions due to the lack of scientific evidence for this treatment. The only thing going for acupressure is it has raked in positive reviews from many people who underwent this treatment.
Acupressure points on the body surface are categorized as below
- Five Transporting Points - System describes the life energy indicator qi flowing in the channels. An analogy to river is used to describe the Five Transporting System. This system correlates the flow of QI to the flow of river from the origin. Just the way how rivers bubble up from a spring and flow down the stream, QI flows too.
- Jing-well points - These are the first points in the Yang and last points in the Yin channel. This is the place where the QI bubbles like a river. These points are observed on the fingers and toes.
- Ying-spring points - The aspect of QI gliding down the channel signifies the Ying Spring points. The Ying-Spring points indicate heat in the body and complexion change.
- Shu-stream points - QI pouring down the channel signifies the presence of Shu-Stream points. The Shu-stream points indicate heaviness in the body and pain n joints.
- Other points are Jing-river points (Indicated in cough, chills and fever) and He-sea points( Indicated for counterflow QI and diarrhea).
- Five Phase Points - These points describe the five phases - wood, fire, metal, water and earth and attribute them to one of the five transporting points. The Jing well transportation points are the wood points in the Yin channels. The difference in the Yang channels is jing-well points being one of the metal points. The same approach is used for other transportation points to arrive at 10 different combinations for the transportation points. The Five Phase points are then used in conjunction with the Five Transportation points to treat diseases.
